We woke up on Monday with a mission: get the RV fixed and out of Oakley, KS. We started calling around until we found a Ford dealer about 20 minutes away that had the part we needed to fix the drive shaft bearing. Then we called nearby mechanics until we found one that could help us that same day. We disconnected the Prius so we could divide & conquer: Dennis would slowly drive the RV to Goodland, KS (where the mechanic was) and I would drive “fast” (i.e. the speed limit) to the Ford dealer to pick up the part.
Lucas and I drove to Goodland, Kansas and found a stunning sight. This town has a gigantic Vincent Van Gogh painting in a 50-foot easel! Definitely not what we were expecting at this small town. We were also delighted to stop by a coffee store drive through and find that they carried various plant-based milks, including soy milk my favorite.
We then met at J’Rod’s Car Repair and the attention we received and the speed in which they got us on our way was outstanding. In less than one hour they had figured out what was wrong, fixed it and had us ready to move.
The boys and I had a snack inside the RV and then, before we knew it, we were on our way to Fort Collins.
We arrived at Fort Collins about 5 hours later and pulled in to the Lakeside Fort Collins KOA, which although expensive (>$90/night compared to $40/night at the Oakley location we stayed out), had a pool, laundry, volleyball courts, pickleball courts and even a mini golf. Granted, we didn’t most of these, but they were part of the contributor to the price.
We drove through Fort Collins and loved it! Unfortunately, we arrived too late to really go on a hike but we ordered some vegan pizza and then hunkered down to start bright and early the next day!
