Last time Dennis and I went to see a “Twilight” movie and the whole theater broke out in applause, shrieks and sighs as soon as “Edward” appeared, Idecided to see the rest of the movies in my own home. Therefore, I was excited to see that the last one, “Breaking Dawn”, had finally come out for rentals this weekend.
My overall rating of this movie is 3 STARS. I would recommend watching it only if you are a fan of the books and want to see the Hollywood version of them. The first part of the movie was incredibly bad and cliche. Not only that but the acting was erratic and the scenes didn’t flow as well. After Bella and Edward come back from their honeymoon, the movie got better so my overall rating came up to a 3 instead of a 2.
I have to confess that my overall viewing experience was brought down by an article that I read about the bad message that the “Twilight” movies are communicating to young women. How they portray absolute obsession over a guy, to the point where Bella is almost suicidal (in “Eclipse”) and puts herself in danger so “she can hear his voice in her head” as something normal. Not only does Bella ONLY define herself by her relationship with Edward but she excuses him when he physically hurts her in “Breaking Dawn” . The whole thing is entangled in a love story so the more lurid elements don’t stand out as much as they should. “He hurt me because he loves me so much” sounds like dangerous start to a bad path of abusive relationship and low self esteem.
Even if you watch this with only adults in mind – the movie is at best medium to low quality.
